Kelly DeMattia - [email protected]
Ever have one of those days where you just can't breathe. The light at the end of the tunnel is obscured by paperwork, or in my case emails, orders, meetings, chats.
Yeah, that's my life right now. Only it's not a day, it's been two weeks and counting.
I'm not complaining, I love my job. I love that I have the knowledge to be able to support my team. HOWEVER, sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming.
I moved out of my old department which was billing support after six years. That is six years of staring at invoices, talking to customers, issuing credits, you know, all that fun stuff. Since last June I switched departments because I needed a fresh start. It was becoming to the point, where even though I worked from home, it was still a struggle sometimes to roll out of bed and walk the 5 feet to my desk. I was depressed and just not feeling myself. A lot of it could have been Covid, but some of it was just being burnt out.
So, anyway, I decided to try something new. So now I am Support Specialist (I like the specialist title, makes me feel important) for our Government channel. Which means that I support the sales reps who sell fiber to our Government entities in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. I like to call it the Mid Atlantic region. I like to call it that because that's what everyone else calls it. And that's actually what it's called.
Anyway, I digress....
So in this new role, I actually handle things on the front end of the sale instead of the end, which were the billing issues. It would seem though that my team, my lovely government sales people seem to forget that I don't work in that department any longer. It's always a "Hey, can you look at this?" Or "Do you mind if we hop on a call with a customer, their invoice is incorrect." Or "We reached out to billing but haven't heard anything back."
*Sigh*
I can't say no. I mean, I could say no, but I don't. And really, I'm not complaining, it's just sometimes I get so involved with the things I used to do, that I have a hard time finding time to do what I do now. It can be a bit frustrating, but I'll share a little secret.
I'm glad they need me. And I'm glad that I can help them. It makes me feel good. And they seem to appreciate me. Hell, who doesn't like to be appreciated.
So I'm left, in the weeds, doing what I used to do, finding time to do what I do now and you know what that means?
I haven't been able to watch my Bravo shows. I'm so far behind on Housewives of Orange County and New Jersey it's driving me crazy. I feel like I need a vacation day to watch TV.
